His research on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and shipping finance is among the most widely cited in the field, published in leading international finance journals and recognised with multiple best-paper awards.
His work on the pricing and performance of corporate takeovers is routinely drawn on by academics, practitioners and regulators.
Beyond the academy, he advises on investment strategy, works with firms and investors on deal valuation and capital allocation and is a regular commentator on corporate transactions and market developments in the international financial media.
He has held some of the most senior leadership positions in the Business School, serving on its senior management team and Executive Committee. As Director of Strategic Projects, Head of Pre-Experience Postgraduate Programmes and Co-Director of Henley Careers and Professional Development, he led the School's Masters portfolio for a number of years as well as the open portfolio, launched new online and foundation programmes and drove the digital transformation of its teaching. Under his leadership the School delivered record outcomes for its Masters cohorts, including 98% employability and 96% programme satisfaction.
A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an ex-affiliate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, he teaches and supervises across the ICMA Centre's postgraduate and doctoral programmes, and has built a reputation for connecting rigorous finance research to what students and practitioners actually need.
He holds a PhD in Finance and an MSc in International Money, Finance and Investment from Durham University, and BSc and MA degrees in Business Finance and Economics from the University of East Anglia.
