International Foundation Pathways

The University of Reading Global Academy provides two options for international students without British A level qualifications or the equivalent, to progress to undergraduate study.

You have the choice to study the one-year International Foundation Programme (IFP) or a wide range of four-year degrees with an Integrated International Foundation Year (IFY). Both prepare you for undergraduate study in three ways:

  • you will receive academic training in subjects for your undergraduate degree
  • you will develop your English language abilities
  • you will acquire the transferable academic skills needed for undergraduate studies and beyond.

During your first year on both programmes, you will study modules that will give you the knowledge, academic training, language skills and confidence you need for your undergraduate degree.

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a one-year standalone foundation programme for international students. We offer a September and January start. If you wish to progress onto a science degree, you will need to apply for the International Foundation Programme, September start.

Degrees with integrated International Foundation Year

As an international student, if you have already chosen the subject you wish to study at degree level, but do not meet the entry requirements, the International Foundation Year (IFY) is an excellent option for you. It is a four-year undergraduate degree that includes an integrated International Foundation Year.

You can study BSc Mathematics with Finance and Investment Banking with International Foundation Year or choose from a number of International Foundation Year programmes (IFYs) across various Schools at the University of Reading.

At the University of Reading Global Academy, we have 100 years of experience in international education, and we provide world-class teaching, cultural insight, and ongoing personalised support.

In 2024, 98% passed the IFP and 92% were able to progress to a University of Reading degree.
