The ICMA Centre is proud of its highly successful Career Development unit, staffed by industry professionals with specialist experience in recruitment and development. All ICMA Centre students benefit from this dedicated careers service, which provides a full range of career advisory and professional development activities.
Our aim is to prepare all students with the fundamental tools to help them achieve their career aspirations – whether that is in-depth work on CVs, interview practice or guidance on their career path, enabling them to identify the types of jobs and functions where they are most likely to excel.

Close Links with the Industry
The ICMA Centre maintains close links with the investment banking community and programme participants are encouraged to attend the extracurricular events available including presentations by market practitioners and alumni working within the banking and securities industries. This enables them to develop an informed view of the career opportunities available and are invaluable in terms of networking and securing employment upon graduation.
Specialist Research Facilities
The ICMA Centre’s career resource area contains an extensive range of information regarding prospective employers and recruitment literature. We also offer a selection of financial sector journals, industry directories, course material and past examination questions for professional associations and regulatory licenses.
Graduates of the ICMA Centre have a strong record of success in obtaining interesting and challenging jobs with firms in the Investment banking and securities markets. Employers range from the blue chip, global ‘bulge-bracket’ firms to banking boutiques, independent traders, hedge funds and asset managers.
We serve a truly global industry and our graduates join firms located in the City of London and other financial centres worldwide. Recent graduates are enjoying successful careers in prestigious firms that include BNP Paribas, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Bank of New York Mellon, Barclays Investment Bank, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, Fidelity Investments, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, ING, JP Morgan, Macquarie, Morgan Stanley, Rabobank and UBS.
Graduates have also joined the financial advisory and consulting divisions of Deloitte’s, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PwC. Others work with rating agencies such as Fitch, Moodys and Standard & Poors, as well as financial information and media giants, Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg. Some have chosen to join commodity and energy trading firms such as Cargill, EDF Energy and RWE Trading. Graduates of our degree in International Shipping & Finance are especially attractive to the shipping industry in roles as diverse as broking, chartering and trading with firms that include Clarksons, Top Ships, Navios Maritime Holdings, DANAOS and Paragon Shipping.
ICMA Centre graduates are employed in a very wide range of front office, middle office and support functions. Over the past five years, many have joined the front office as financial markets trainees in Trading, Sales and Origination, as well as a wide variety of business facing roles including corporate finance, corporate banking, wealth management, fund management and research. Others work in middle office Risk management & structuring, Compliance, regulatory and control functions. Those with specialised knowledge, especially in financial engineering, work as quantitative analysts and developers or have pursued advanced studies at PhD level before embarking on academic careers.
