Biography

Deepa Govindarajan is a Visiting Fellow at the ICMA Centre and lectures in the areas of banking compliance and the regulation of markets and traders. Her academic interests cover senior management arrangements and governance within banks, qualitative decision-making in the management of risk, the socio-political context of banking & financial regulation and the comparative study of international banking regulation.

Deepa brings a practical approach to our regulatory, operational risk and compliance courses through her experience in banking, consulting and regulatory supervision. Deepa is a principal consultant with Risk Dynamics, a specialist risk advisory firm, based in Brussels. At Risk Dynamics, she advises on senior management arrangements, best practice in relation to risk frameworks and strategy, regulatory compliance, risk governance, training, operational risk and cross-risk-type concerns. Deepa's spearheads Risk Dynamics' work with international regulators and supervisory authorities as well as Risk Dynamics' research and training endeavours.

Ms Govindarajan's career to date, has spanned roles at Citigroup, the U.K. Financial Services Authority (FSA), Lloyds Banking Group and in academia. At LloydsBankingGroup, she was responsible for group-level operational risk and compliance oversight of the Wholesale and Insurance & Investments divisions. She has also worked at the FSA in the areas of banking supervision, Basel 2 policy implementation for the FSA's wholesale division, Pillar 2 reviews and the design of supervisory training in respect of the FSA's ARROW 2 risk framework. Deepa completed her first degree in Economics and then her Master's in Management Studies at the University of Bombay (Mumbai, India).In addition to her academic and professional interests, Deepa is involved in charitable work and is a committed vegetarian 'foodie'.
