PQ Awards Student Body of the Year 2026
We are delighted to announce, our Accounting and Business students have won the PQ Magazine Student Body of the Year Award 2026
The award is presented to a body of students who have done something extraordinary for themselves and their peers. Student Bodies are shortlisted from both University and Professional firms and then one is selected from a panel of judges to be the winner
Over several years, this group of students has transformed personal tragedy into a meaningful initiative that raises funds for charity, promotes mental health awareness and brings together students, alumni and families in a spirit of compassion and support. The initiative began following the devastating loss of Piratheesh Karunakaran in June 2022. A passionate football fan, it felt fitting that his friends chose to honour his memory through the sport he loved. Rather than allowing grief to define them, the students channelled their loss into action by creating an event that supports others who may be struggling.
Each year the memorial match brings together students across year groups for a moment of reflection. Attendees gather beforehand for a minute’s silence, followed by a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone, symbolising solidarity, remembrance and support. Through the generosity of students, alumni, staff and supporters, the initiative has raised £7,446 towards an £8,000 target, demonstrating the strong commitment of the programme community to supporting the work of PAPYRUS.
Although Piratheesh should have graduated with his peers in July 2025, the memorial match continues. In November 2026, his brother returned to take part alongside several alumni from his cohort, reflecting the lasting bonds within the programme and the enduring impact Piratheesh continues to have on those who knew him.
A huge congratulations to our winning group Nathan Dean, Connor Mills, Katie Richards and Jack Bartle.
