Study Day - University of Southampton

On Tuesday 30 June in Lecture Theatre A, University of Southampton - Avenue Campus, there will be a study day organised by the AHRC-funded Soldier in Later Medieval England project.

This will demonstrate the on-line database which we have created, which lists around a quarter of a million names.

The day will also focus on the weaponry used in the period. There will be a keynote by Professor Steve Walton of Penn State University, one of the leading historians of medieval/early modern technology who is currently a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the Royal Armouries.

There will be short papers on crossbowmen and gunners based on material gathered by the AHRC project, and the artillery of Southampton in the fifteenth century. There will also be video presentations on the making of weapons and opportunities for debate between academics and those involved in reconstruction/re-enactment.
