Rotman International Trading Competition
We are keen to offer our students a variety of additional opportunities each year to add to your skill set and CV. One of these is the Rotman International Trading competition in Toronto - every year we enter a team of students to compete in this prestigious event, which is attended by Universities from all over the world.
The Centre is proud to have won and been the top European business school in the past five years; beating the likes of M.I.T Sloan School of Management, Harvard University and Cass Business School.
Team Selection
Students undertake various trading trials and a market forecast to become part of the team. This year we started the trials with approximately sixty people:
Traded a 1 hour equity trading session on FTSTrader - the best 30 went through
Riskmanager market making session on US equities. Graded on active market making,+ P&L and they had to close positions at the end of 1 hour and had to stay with risk limits. Any risk breaks or open positions at the end meant instant disqualification - the best 15 went through.
1 hour open outcry only fixed income (US T Bonds) session (Riskmanager). The only deals they could do were with each other - the best 12 went through.
1 hour currency options ($/yen) market making session. They had strict risk limits and had to close all positions at the end of trading - the best 8 went though.
1 week ahead market forecast on S&P 500, FTSE 100, Brent Crude, Gold and $/Yen. The four best reasoned and most accurate forecasts make the team.
