MSc Distance Learning Programmes

We are pleased to announce that the following degrees are now available on a distance and flexible learning basis:

If you want to continue working whilst you study for your Master's degree then our MSc Learning options are ideal.  We are receiving a growing number of applicants for our distance and flexible learning MScs, both from those who have recently graduated and those already working in the industry. Whilst this option is challenging the combination below will facilitate your success:

  • Our unique ILE (Interactive Learning Environment) - you will also receive an iPod loaded with the part one lectures
  • IC Live - an optional week at the Centre including the all important dealing room sessions
  • The outstanding level of support you will receive from academic and support staff.

ILE (Interactive Learning Environment)

The distance learning option utilises our uniquely developed Interactive Learning Environment (ILE) which consists of a CD or DVD-ROM containing an executable lecture application and its associated resources – including slides, videos and bookmarks.

In addition, you will also receive an iPod that is loaded with the part-one lectures.

Each lecture has some or all of the following:

  • Video of the lecturer and synchronised slides
  • An interactive list of slides (bookmarks) - clicking a bookmark accesses that portion of the lecture;
  • Software demonstrations played back in a window automatically launched from the lecture;
  • A student bookmark feature - students can add bookmarks to a lecture for future review;
  • Student notes feature - each student bookmark has an associated notes field;
  • Exit point memory - the lecture will re-start where the student left off when the ILE is restarted.

IC Live

This is your opportunity to visit the Centre for a week and attend lectures in the modules you have been studying.  Study skills and dealing room sessions will also be available to you.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to network with your fellow-distance learners, doctoral researchers, academics and full-time students.

Exams

On the distance learning option if you are in the UK you will take the exams here at the University of Reading, however if you are overseas you will take exams in your chosen location, usually within British Council office.

Flexible Learning

This is an alternative option which is a combination of full-time and distance learning, students study the same materials and will be assessed by the same examinations. Students choosing this method of study will be able to combine distance learning with a shorter period of full-time study in the UK.
