Biography
Vacharakoon obtained his first MA. in International Relations, majoring in Economic development, ranking second in his class, from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan where he was granted a scholarship from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Bank of Thailand. He also completed his MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking (Risk Management specialize) with distinction from the ICMA Centre, where he was granted a scholarship from the Bank of Thailand. He previously graduated from the faculty of Economics, Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand, with a BA in Economics, majoring Monetary economics, International economics and Industrial economics, with second class honours.
Vacharakoon has six years experience working at the Central Bank of Thailand. He was an economist in the Economics Research Department and Monetary Policy Department. His last position there was a senior analyst in the Payment Systems Department. He is currently a PhD. student under the supervision of Professor John Board and his research is in the area of Risk management in payment and settlement system and the role of overseer.
